THE GIRLS CLUB is a collection of self-portraits dealing with the hype of a generic beauty towards the (female) face. Selfie-editing apps allow the fulfilment of the desire for ageless and crease-free faces that give the impression of qualities like health, youth, and happiness. Taking retouch tools as a technique of image- and identity-optimisation, I created this series to redefine female virtual representation through a contemporary Internet gaze.

My features are excessively smoothened, contoured and resized to the point of un-identifiability. The images are then dyed on silk for a skin-like fragility and haptic softness. Each portrait is assigned a pseudonym I’ve used in offline and online contexts over the years.
