„In Haraway’s text, the cyborg is a symbol of liberation, a chance to counter the binary thinking — nature/culture, man/woman, civilised/primitive — that has been traditionally used to justify inequality and discrimination. For Peschek, however, the reality was somewhat more ambivalent. Rereading A Cyborg Manifesto during her recovery, the artist realised that the utopian promise of the essay didn’t allow for the fear and uncertainty she felt about a future that is 100 percent dependent on a technological device.
It’s become a cliché to say that an artist works at the intersection of art and technology, but what of the creative whose own body sits at this junction? In SOFT TISSUE, Peschek’s first solo exhibition at Galerie Droste, Düsseldorf,
the artist wrestles with the physical, spiritual and emotional implications of entering this new state of being.
Undercutting the romanticism of trans and post-humanist theory, the two bodies of work Peschek has created for the show are an attempt to measure the separation between the fantasy and reality of living a hybrid existence“

INFINITY LAND is an invitation to experience the liminal space between wakefulness and sleep, a tentative and radical interruption of the here and now, excluding everything that disturbs the presence of the present.

The complex entanglement of today’s being requires new techniques to address the state of exhaustion of our generation. The installation invites you to understand sleep as one of these methods. But how can we relax within structures that are collapsing?

Elements of breathing, hyperventilation, ASMR, nature, and meditative rhythms, echoes, cycles of birth, growth, panspermia, metamorphosis, and transience collide with our primordial cells, evoking collective dreaming, collective waking, and collective rest.

Resting is understood here as an individual act to give the planet a break from the consuming self. It is an invitation to give yourself a break from yourself.

In addition to the daily „rest times“ in the exhibition, visitors are invited to collective sleepover rituals in the installation on the weekends.

A rejection of the hyperpresence - a liminal space between awake and dream, that’s where we wander when entering INFINITY LAND. My new immersive installation is about the concept of collective rest as a rejection of the attention economy and an invitation to linger, undistracted and unaccompanied by any device other than the body, for a while to give the world a pause - of yourself.

The title of the new show refers to representative obsessions found on instagram feeds. The feed seen as a liminal space where humans transisting into hyper potent versions of themselves that are floating there for an „eternity“.

Explore images that haunt us, images about things we want to posses, roles we tend to perform, replicas of someone else’s dreams.

Referring to late 19th century spirit photography, this series recalls the uncanny mystery of streamed images aftermath that may be embedded within us.

Being in the epicenter of an attention economy wit

Being in the epicenter of an attention economy with its inability to acknowledge one‘s own lethality, and mindful- ness and slow culture on the rise, I am interested in exploring the idea of an eternal loop of consciousness.

F O R EV ER takes time and space to recognize mechanisms that re- peat from cosmic to microscopic processes, both physical and virtual, and invites the visitors to linger on with essential questions: What are the concern of a physical passivity, transience and not-being? How strongly do we need to stay connected with our physical shell, considering short-term „out-of-body experiences“ vs. the need for immortality?
The series consist of digitally retouched body self-images produced on silk depicting different transition states of digitally altered, unbiased bodies that my live beyond my physicality.

„Christiane Peschek expands the semantic space of art into the infinite and eternal; yet she always has the body's unalterable mortality in mind. Transformation and decay as basic principles of human existence bound to the physical form the subtext of this exhibition. What can be represented, said, known, when all things melt, evaporate, congeal? What remains of human beings, of human physique and of human consciousness after the human being? Will the human form survive? How? And why? Where might new forms of human existence emerge between digitality and immediate physical reality that might outlast the end of the Anthropocene? Can the digitally generated image; can generative existence be a redemption from mortality or is it rather the next, logical stage of a coming existence?

Freezing and liquefying, melting and evaporating are transitory elements that correspond most closely to unconscious, dreamlike and prelingual states. Christiane Peschek connects such highly speculative, utopian ideas to experiences of digital space and real space. She uses silk as an image carrier - soft, shiny, translucent- as well as ice, water, mirror surfaces, sound, video, and screens.“ @magdalenakroener 🤍

In countless passes, the (self-)retouch on the screen becomes a repetitive-ritual game of self-optimization. The body modifications ultimately culminate in the blurring and erasure of the depicted subjects. The digital, often associated with disembodiment, becomes a statement of the intangible. The face, status of identity, is dispossessed of the provocation of the gaze and allows a second look behind the facade of the "face".

„The 3d printed concrete fountain refers in its shape to an internet-based contemporary youth culture, where the rediscovery of 1990’s tribals are used as a form of self-expressions. Following the original purpose of a fountain as a source of water and therefor life itself, the artists interpretation is expanded to a source of of eternal youth symbolised by the socio-cultural repetition of teenage culture (in public space). A concept that is inhabits the internet in its contemporary function.
Installed in the public, the fountain, with its digital origin, can unfold it’s greater potential as a memento of phygital existence. Carrying the smell of her first kiss, the fountain expands to a guardian of an individual memory that stands for an average human biographical incident marking the transition from childhood to adolescence“

The Alpha State is characterized by being clear-headed, present, and fully in the moment which creates a sense of peace and well-being in your mind and body. When in this state, you seem to exude charisma as your mind focuses only on the here and now.

In a semi-mystical narrative at the end of the anthropocene, TOTAL ECLIPSE tells of dependence and condition. Embedded in digital techno-mysticism, the gaze turns alternately from outside to inside, creating a play of light and shadow, in material, mystical and technological sense. What is at question is the process of becoming and passing away, an element that unites beyond mystical symbiosis - the omnipresence of energy.
TOTAL ECLIPSE fuses digital sources with internet-based wisdom and ritual experience - the space becomes a cosmos of their echo chambers. In the exhibition space 2 metal circles face each other. Two solid-borne sound transducers attached to the backs of the metal objects transform them into sound sources and resonate with each other in the form of bass beats. The 4/4 beat moving back and forth leads in its minimalistic characteristic to a trance-like experience.

The joint oscillation thus creates a rhythm, a beat, a trance state that sets both bodies into mutual oscillation. In inescapable humanity one recognizes The cosmic extent of cause and effect and the duality of life. Light implies shadow. Life implies death. And the self implies its counterpart. The exhibition narrates the mystical symbiosis of energy in the process of becoming , shining, blinding and the fear of extinction. Convictions turn out to be delusions and challenge both the artists and the visitors to understand the exhibition space as a trip of self-experience. The question that accompanies this experience is a collective one: What will we make sacred?

The temporal and spatial gap between the production of bodies and their construction are no longer bound to physical existence. I transform my physical body based on a body language of the internet, questioning gender and binary legibility of images in a culture of the attractive.

With the help of image optimization tools such as face filters and skin repair stamps, retouching in my imagery becomes a possibility of fluid body appropriation. In countless passes, the (self-)retouch on the screen becomes a repetitive-ritual game of self-optimization. The body modifications ultimately culminate in the blurring and erasure of the depicted subjects. ✨FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION.✨ In this case, I appropriate bodies read as male, thereby addressing the multifunctionality of identity.
The digital, often associated with disembodiment, becomes a statement of the intangible. The face, status of identity, is dispossessed of the provocation of the gaze and allows a second look behind the facade of the "face". I propagate the right to be blurry in an image culture characterized by high-res and close-up.

The core element of IRIS is a sunset gradient applied on the window of the exhibitionspace. Through its translucency the room atmosphere is transformed into an expanded, eternal sunset, setting the mood for inward reflection.
Accompanied by a central water pond that resonates with the presence of each visitor, IRIS stimulates the abyss of digitally expanded identity and offers a potential new perspective on rejuvenation.
