F O R E V E R is a multi-sensory retreat questioning the future of phygital bodies and their mythology of immortality. In the limbo of spiritual and intimate interstitial worlds, F O R E V E R creates time and space to discern mechanisms, asking the physical and virtual, cosmic and microscopic processes pervasive question: which part of us, if any, deserves immortality? At the focal point of the project is a 3D-printed ice sculpture, infused with stem cells, which melts anew every day in the exhibition space: the process of the emergence and decay of form and life, and its perpetual change and repetition, becomes the central idea F O R E V E R. The shape of the digitally constructed sculpture detaches itself from gender assignment and bias. The installation is expanded by a series of generative self-portraits that, in dialogue with the sculpture, depict various inventories of a digital body transformation. Based on data material from the artist‘s selfies, these are interwoven, fused, and collaged into new digital corporeality by AI-based image generation software.
In the exhibition‘s second room, water circulates from the walls through wall outlets in a room-filling, chrome-colored pool.
The immersive fountain references the eternal cycle of life. At the end of the walkway are a pair of headphones, by means of which the visitor is put into a trance state. The sound composition is an auditory journey from the social skin, across the surface of the body, and into the innermost self of the individual, guided by a voice that reflects together with the visitor on living as an individual.
At the exhibition opening visitors were invited to get the exhibition title FOREVER tattooed under their skin as a conceptual piece of eternity inscribed in an impermanent body.
