THE RITUALS OF VAPOR SHELLS is a site-specific, interactive experience and video installation that explores the connections and boundaries between digital and analog bodies. The so-called post-body spa opens an experiential self-care space to engage with questions of an expanded hybrid existence. Designed for up to 30 visitors per slot, the installation is an intimate, performative enactment of physical and mental regenerative processes.
The interior’s comprehensive transformation of existing spa environments creates an oasis of amorphous sculptures, swimming pools with underwater sound and a circular room heated up to body-temperature that invites visitors to linger on listening to a soothing voice guiding into deep relaxation. Bathtubs filled with water beads put the visitors‘ bodies into new senses of sensation for their 2 hours visit. The installation is augmented by a series of AR sculptures of fluid, wavering bodies resembling skin and bone structures.
